Pearson Airport Ticket

Hi All,

I am an Uber driver and I stopped at C32 in Terminal 3 to pick up riders which I was not supposed to be stopping there. The riders were supposed to be at waiting at C24 but they did not know where to wait, so they waited at C32. I saw them waving from far (while I was at the correct zone c24) and I just pulled ahead to tell them that you should go back to the C24. I did not pick up any bags or load anything and the entire thing was 30 seconds or under a minute, I do not have a camera but for sure the Airport camera is there as proof. After that from nowhere, a PO came and gave me a ticket, but I did not leave my car or load anything?

I already filed my ticket to fight it in court and it's going to be in 2 days in Mississauga, My question is, do I have luck to fight the ticket because I did not load any riders or bags and did not leave the car? in fact, I just open my driver door without stepping out but did not leave it or pick anything and it was very quick maybe max a minute?

Input is appreciated

Thanks

Scan the ticket, blank out your info, and post it here.

Or at least tell us what the exact charge/section of law it was.
Are you sure you wish to carry out this operation? You betcha.

The Ticket and Disclosure of evidence attached. The law was "failing to obey instruction on traffic sign"

The PO did not tell the truth within the DOE as he states that I was notified about not parking and denied. How would I deny a PO instruction???? Does that make sense???

Also he states that, I told the PO in my uber app there is no section where to park, but with every trip, its mentioned where to park.

Also the PO ticked the checkbox in the ticket, the section where it states the ticket was left on the windshield or on the car, but in fact, he hands it over to me while I was sitting in the car ????

FYI I initially parked in the permitted zone then I moved over to C32 to inform the riders I will not be able to pickup while I was doing that he gave me the ticket.

I was gonna say maybe you can argue that you were stopped, and not parked. Some bylaws have different defintions for those two things.

But you were charged under the "Traffic on the Land Side of Airports Regulations" which doesn't seem to make that disctinction. Maybe under those regulations stopping is the same thing as parking.

But all that aside, you know the deal at the airport, and probably saw the sign. But you still chose to pursue the fare in an area you know you're not supposed to be in.

Always stop in a safe zone and never in no stopping zone, make passengers walk to your car

You answered your own question in your first sentence : " which I was not supposed to be stopping there ". Good job by Police, with all the room at new cell phone parking lots, there is no need to break the law. Those Uber drivers annoy everyone at that zone, especially Taxi/Limo drivers.

You deserve the ticket so enjoy being a taxi and try to be better at understanding the rules of the road and signage. It will help you avoid future tickets.

The cops do lie like everyone else, but unfortunately, I don't see what excuse you will be able to use in front of a JP to win your case. It is obvious that the cop has a chip against Uber drivers otherwise he would not add that information which is not factual (I am giving you all the benefit of you being truthful on this). If stopping in front of post C32 is illegal even for a fraction of a minute, I can only wonder how long it took the cop to write the ticket and draw that nice pic. Consider these situations as the cost of doing business and learn from this experience. Good luck.

How is it that most alleged infractions are caused by new RFD members?

Also remember to not touch your screen, even when stopped at a red light, as you can get a ticket for that.

At least OP tried to pickup the passenger near the requested post. I had a Lyft driver who drove around the terminal twice....and still ended up at Departure level at Terminal to pick me up! Instead of wasting time, I decided to walk up and meet the Lyft guy at Departure level instead to save me another 5 mins of him driving around Terminal 1 loop again.

Moral of the story, try not to use the Lyft 10% off coupons...not worth the hassle.

I think the cop counted the time it took him to write the ticket and practice his picture drawing skills as OPs 'parking violation' time. That's an awesome tow truck drawing.

As an Uber driver you would have had their number. If you saw them waving you down, you should have called them and told them to come to you..

Uber/Lyft drivers are the worse. They always go under the speed limit...by a lot and hold up traffic or do stupid stops to pick up/ drop off rides. Seems like traffic laws don't apply to them.

Likely looking for a friendly ear to see how badly they screwed up? ;)

That would have been the most intelligent and far cheaper approach to resolving the pickup.

"Hi, this is your Uber driver. I am at post C24. If you folks look to your left and walk about 60m you will see my "colour and brand of" a car. I can not come to your pick up location as it is only reserved for the airport shuttle buses. Thank you."
